Caribbean Coast
A visit to the Caribbean coast is like visiting a kaleidoscope
of imagery. The landscape changes from thick tropical forests to
colorful horticultural farms to the coconut-lined trees on the
coast. The place is a repertoire of natural and scenic beauty.
Location
The coast runs 200 kms between Nicaragua and Panama and
stretches in the south till the Talamanca mountain range.
Exploring Caribbean Coast
You can do a host of activities in this beautiful coast. It's
adventure seeker's paradise with the number of water sports it
offers like surfing, diving, white water rafting, ocean and river
kayaking, snorkeling and canoeing. The nature lovers can fill their
heart with joy by watching birds, hiking, camping and riding. You
can also go out fishing. The joie de vivre doesn't end here but
this place still has some more in store for you. The Cahuita
National Park has some beautiful reefs. The reef stretching for
some 600 acres has a lagoon featuring live corals in different hues
and shades. It's a delight to go out surfing here. Camping is
possible in the jungles nearby as well as Hitoy-Cerere Biological
Reserve. You can also choose to stay at any of the fishing lodges
at Barra del Colorado.
The nature lovers should head for Aviarios del Caribe, located
south of Limon. The vast reserve spreads to an expanse of 104 acres
housing a number of birds and animals. The refuge has beautiful
lagoons and canals. No matter what, the photographers and nature
lovers can never have enough of them. The other famous wildlife
sanctuaries include Tortuguero National Park and Barra del Colorado
Wildlife Refuge. Chances are that you can also find many endangered
species at the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, a scenic haven
for birds, plants and animals.
Heritage
A trip to Limon, the gateway to Caribbean is akin to stepping
back in time. Here you can visit the historical places and discover
the roots of the Caribbean culture. The old world charm is evident
in some of the local English dialects spoken by the people,
stemming from the colonial times. You can just let the beauty seep
in as you just lay back on the beautiful beaches in silence. If you
wish to celebrate life, you can party the Caribbean style in Puerto
Viejo, a sleepy village nevertheless. You can jive at the reggae
and calypso beats in the discs out here.
